What are some of the tools in your skill-set which have been critical to you in your career?
As a PR professional who started out as an English teacher on the high school and college levels, I take pride in my strong communication skills. I always try to listen closely, take the time to understand another's perspective, articulate my ideas clearly and succinctly, and ensure that others feel their voices are heard. I also love being a connector and relationship builder, bringing people together and helping them achieve their goals whatever they may be. As a result, I have not only received business, but I have made many strong, lifetime friendships.
Tell us about an accomplishment you are proud of.
In 2017, after years of working in public relations agencies and in house as a director of public relations, I started my own PR consultancy, News Muse, which offers media relations, marketing communications and media training. It was scary, yet exciting to begin this new venture as a solo practitioner. Simultaneously, I pursued my real estate license and am now an associate broker at Coldwell Banker Realty. I call myself a "bi-preneur" as I have the good fortune of working in two businesses that I love and that truly complement one another.
Describe a key piece of advice you received during your career, and how it impacted you.
It doesn't matter if you are the smartest, most attractive or most popular person in the room. What matters is that you are always kind and willing to help someone else without the expectation that you will get something in return. Every person, whether it's the president of a company or the receptionist, has a story to share. We all have value, regardless of our professional or financial status, and should be respected, appreciated and heard.
This mindset has enabled me meet a variety of different people from all walks of life and has enriched me personally and professionally.
