How many years a CREW Member?
I am writing a novel and have wide-ranging interests in the arts and music. The past two-plus years of pandemic living have taught me to slow down and take time for those interests.
What are some of the tools in your skill-set which have been critical to you in your career?
I learned early in my career how to work across organizations both vertically and horizontally, managing teams of disparate employees to achieve a common goal. I've been able to apply those skills on a daily basis in more than five industries: Music, Publishing, Technology, Construction and Law. Understanding business processes and how organizations function is key to my success over the years and in varied disciplines.
Who had the most influence on you growing up, and why?
That's a difficult question because different people made an impact in different ways. Overall, I think that my father's analytic and critical thinking as a research scientist had a major impact on how I think. My mother's love of the arts and insistence on an education focused on all of the liberal arts influenced my interest in fine art, artisanship, music and writing.
Who or what inspires you now? Why?
My relationships with female colleagues and friends is inspiring to me at this time in my life. As I've gotten older, I've learned how to be a better friend and mentor, and I have reached out both professionally and personally to establish deeper and more substantial relationships. At the most basic level, I have found that a willingness to be honest and genuine in my communications engenders the same in others. This has led to fruitful business relationships and caring, supportive friendships. CREW NY has helped me to learn and apply those skills, instead of exercising more caution in showing my true self.
