How Many Years a CREWNY Member:
Since AREW and NYCREW merged in 2014 so 7 years, I was a member of AREW from 2008-2014
I share the same name as famed Miami based Chef Michelle Bernstein
How do you encourage women reports, colleagues and friends in CRE to persevere, despite challenges?
The field I am in, construction, is heavily male dominated. I think there is great opportunity and would encourage all women to consider construction when thinking about a future career. My advice to women in CRE is to stay true to yourself, ask a lot of questions, and join a supportive networking group like CREWNY.
Who or what inspires you? Why?
My mother. While she unfortunately passed away this past November after a valiant 2.5 year battle with pancreatic cancer, she never once complained and fought with such poise and courage every step of the way. She is a shining example of grace in the face of adversity. This is something that I will take with me as a navigate life without her.
What did you want to be growing up?
As a child, I thought I wanted to be a clown doctor, specifically a pediatrician. I thought marrying humor with caring for others was the ideal combination. While my current field is far from my childhood aspirations, I do try and bring humor with me to the workplace and to every aspect of my life.
