How Many Years A CREWNY Member?
2021 CREWNY Role:
I used to row (crew) and my desire to live somewhere where I can do it again is still there – despite my age!
How do you bring value to your company?
I’m in charge of the asset management of our 11,000 unit equity portfolio. I am constantly monitoring areas of risk within the portfolio and formulating proactive strategies for handling and minimizing that risk, as well as generally looking for ways to improve operating results and then communicate all of this to everyone at CDT and our board of directors.
Tell us about an accomplishment you are proud of:
I think I’m most proud of the best practices I’ve developed, the people I’ve hired, and the team environment I’ve fostered that will benefit the company in the short and long term. It’s not about me, it’s about helping my team look great to the rest of the firm and the board of directors and being really proud of our work product and work ethic.
What have you learned about yourself over the past year?
That connecting with people face to face, even via Zoom, etc., is really important to me and much more gratifying than just talking via phone, and that I CAN cook (with a recipe). That we are more resilient than we realized. That the world needs team players and respect for each other.
What about CRE ignites your passion?
Watching buildings come out of the ground is fascinating. Creating spaces that work for people and make them feel better about themselves. How about in your current role? CDT’s mission is to preserve affordable housing. Helping people have a better place to grow up in than they might not have had through no fault of their own keeps me going.
What advice would you give your younger self?
Network, network, network. Even if you love your current job and have no intention of looking for a new opportunity. Learn from others outside your organization and make yourself known!
