History and Mission

The CREW New York Charitable Fund is a 501(c)3, not-for-profit affiliate of CREW New York established in 1989 as part of CREW New York's ongoing commitment to make a difference in the larger community through charitable activities.

The Charitable Fund has two primary areas of focus: supporting Women in Need (WIN), a not-for-profit organization that provides New York City homeless women and their families with safe, clean housing, support and the skills to become self-reliant; and funding scholarships for students in real estate programs at New York City colleges and universities.

The Charitable Fund awards annual scholarships to qualified undergraduate or graduate students in real estate and/or related urban studies programs at Baruch College, Columbia University and New York University. More than $185,000 in scholarships have been awarded since the program’s inception. Additionally, funded by proceeds from AREW’s 30th Anniversary Gala, the Charitable Fund established a new scholarship in honor of AREW’s founder and first president, Merle Gross-Ginsburg. This scholarship offers substantial support to students enrolled in the NYC Schack Institute of Real Estate Master of Science program in either Real Estate or Construction Management.

    Women In Need

The CREW New York Charitable Fund has supported WIN for nearly three decades through a variety of programs and hands-on activities. Among these programs are:
    • Champions for ChildrenWhich provides specialized services for children including preschool; day care; personal educational plans for each child; Camp WIN, an 8-week summer camp; referrals to other needed services; parenting workshops; and after school programs.
    • Secret Santa ProgramWherein CREW New York members and real estate industry colleagues receive a letter from one or more children living in a WIN residence. The letter to Santa has three wishes for gifts which are collected at CREW New York’s December luncheon. For more than a decade, the Charitable Fund has fulfilled the holiday dreams of 200 or more children annually.

    Bottomless Closet

The Charitable Fund holds an annual collection for Bottomless Closet, a not-for-profit organization that provides business attire and ongoing career support for economically disadvantaged women. WIN is among Bottomless Closet’s clients.

    Make a Donation

A donation to the CREW New York Charitable Fund is a meaningful way to recognize, honor or memorialize a colleague, friend or loved one. While the Charitable Fund organizes many events to raise money for worthy causes, donations are appreciated from members and non-members as need is great and making a difference in the lives of others is always rewarding.
